Long Awaited Brookland Groundbreaking in West Columbia

BROOKLAND: CORNERSTONE FOR THE FUTURE

COLUMBIA, S.C.— Estates & Companies announced the plans for a mixed-use residential community complete with public parking, retail, office, and restaurant space covering several acres from Alexander Road to State Street in West Columbia. A groundbreaking celebration will take place on Tuesday, January 24th from 3-5:00 pm.

From concept to present plans, Estates and the City of West Columbia have focused on shaping the future of West Columbia by building a legacy as a community. The original “Brookland”, established in 1894, served as the residential community for mill workers. The plan for the new Brookland is to revive the area by building a riverfront, live, work, and play community of multifamily apartments, office, restaurant and retail that encourages pedestrian engagement and fosters connectivity between the Vista, the Riverwalk and State Street. In addition to timeless architecture and upscale interiors and amenities, the plan includes a public parking garage, public on street parking, parks, retail, restaurants, and a public plaza showcasing skyline views to host future social events. The luxury multifamily apartments will include studios, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom units many of which have views of the beautiful downtown Columbia skyline. A few of the residential interior appointments include modern open floorplans, up to 13’ ceilings, sleek kitchens with stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, tiled backsplashes, spacious walk in closets, tiled showers and tubs, media nooks with charging stations, and rustic wide plank flooring. The residential community amenities provide a relaxing yet connected and entertaining lifestyle with the Rooftop Lounge overlooking the Congaree River and skyline, Saltwater Pool with sunning ledges, Outdoor Kitchen and Firepit, State of the Art Fitness Center, Coffee lounge, Gigabit Community, and the renowned Riverwalk and Amphitheatre that is steps from your door. It is expected that this community will be a spark for future growth in West Columbia and it has many residents excited about the potential.

“This development” West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton States, “can be the catalyst for the continued development and revitalization of the riverfront area of the City of West Columbia. It encompasses living, working, dining and shopping in a unique setting.”

Matt Mundy of Estates is excited that the groundbreaking event will kick start the long-needed revival of West Columbia’s historic Brookland district. “The beautiful Congaree River is one of the area’s greatest natural features, and we’re going to build a thriving neighborhood around it. This ground breaking event symbolizes a fresh start!” The location within West Columbia is a gem nestled in between the beautiful Riverwalk, the delicious restaurants and boutique shops at State Street, within steps of the Vista restaurant and nightlife, and only one mile from the State House. The entire Brookland team is grateful for the overwhelming support from the City of West Columbia and the community and welcomes the public to participate in Bringing Brookland Back.

The groundbreaking celebration will begin on Tuesday, January 24th at 3pm. Charles Jackson Jr. from Brookland Baptist Church will give the invocation and Estates & Companies along with Mayor Bobby Horton will share their vision for the property. Directly after they will officially break ground. City officials, local restaurant vendors and business owners will be in attendance to help support the exciting new transformation for Brookland.
